Damaging Winds Possible with Storms Across Carolinas and Coastal Mid-Atlantic
Nationwide
A marginal risk of severe thunderstorms is in effect today across parts of the central and eastern Carolinas and the coastal southern Mid-Atlantic. Isolated strong to severe storms may produce occasional damaging winds, with a brief tornado or two also possible in the favored areas before activity weakens and moves offshore by early evening.
Carolinas
Storms are expected to develop this afternoon across the central and eastern Carolinas along and ahead of a cold front. Occasional damaging winds are the main concern, and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out where the strongest storms form.
Coastal Mid-Atlantic
The coastal southern Mid-Atlantic, including southeast Virginia, also faces a marginal risk today. Ongoing storms this morning may already pose a risk for isolated damaging winds, with additional development possible this afternoon.
Southern New England
The threat for strong or gusty winds could extend into parts of southern New England later today. However, limited potential for surface-based storms should keep any severe weather risk low in this region.
Southeast Arizona
Weak storms may develop this afternoon over parts of southeast Arizona. The strongest cores could produce occasional small hail, though organized severe weather is not expected.
