Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Risk Across West and Central Texas Through Friday
West Texas
Heavy rain is already underway and will continue through Friday across much of West Texas. Numerous showers and storms are expected, with the highest chances of heavier amounts from this evening through midnight. Totals of one to three inches are possible in many areas, and a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening because of saturated ground and the potential for repeated heavy bursts.
West Central Texas
Rain will spread north across West Central Texas this afternoon and evening, with the greatest potential for heavier amounts tonight into Friday morning. Portions of the Concho Valley, Edwards Plateau, and Hill Country could see two to three inches or more by Friday afternoon. A Flash Flood Watch is in place for several counties where the heaviest rain is most likely to stall.
South Plains
High chances of rainfall continue from this afternoon through Friday evening across the South Plains. Rain will be persistent rather than extremely intense at times, but locally heavy downpours are still possible and could lead to flooding concerns, especially where soils are already wet. Activity should gradually taper off Friday afternoon and evening.
Texas Panhandle
Showers and isolated thunderstorms are favored late tonight through Friday across the Texas Panhandle. Rain amounts should generally stay lighter than farther south, and the chance of flash flooding remains very low. Rain is expected to end from southwest to northeast by Friday afternoon or early evening.
Broader Outlook
After the current rain ends Friday, a quieter stretch is expected through the weekend with only isolated light showers possible in some areas. Another round of rain chances returns late Sunday into Monday as the next system approaches, though amounts look lighter than the current event for most of the state.
